Been too long friends. Sorry bout the absence, got much on my plate right now. Latest tinkerings: customized MIDI MPC for my good friend and collaborator, the beat scientist EBRY. Went thru many stages, these are the final shots. Got some video of the process, yet to be edited. stay tuned for that. also grab some tunes that were made on this beast HERE
Thursday nights I teach art lessons to 5-14 year olds and last week we met in the library instead of our usual meeting place, the auditorium. So after class I had a chance to check out some of Betsy Ross Elementary's library jewels and found this amazing book from 1974. Illustrated by an artist known only as ALIKI, the imagery is quaint and minimalistic, in both design and color palate. Very typical 60s-70s aesthetic, which i love.
Aliki has a great sense of line.
hey leroy is that a fossil or a cornish game hen youre holding there? so good. The yellow wash really carries this one. Look at the graphic seaweed in the background. solid composition.
this scene is just plain badass. i used to dream about stuff like this.
awesome use of watercolor illustrating the fossil process
probably my favorite page, look at these dudes and try not to laugh. I love how matter-of-fact and simple the artwork is. Great washes to add some dimension.
His children have a great sense of humor and personality about them. Very playful handling of their expressions and mannerisms. There were more illustrated pages in the book i remember. Go check this rad book out at your local library to see more. Laterzz
Some of my inks colored digitally. If you've been paying attention you've seen these folks before, and now you know their names. These were the first 3 i created and they've got plenty of friends that i haven't scanned yet, so you'll see them eventually. In the spirit of not giving away too much, ill just say that my friends here are going to be part of a graphic novel I've been writing and developing for the past 4 months. More to come. laterz
Long story short I've had to switch computers and the transition has set me back a little on time. Here's some concept design I've been working on. You'll be seeing a lot more of this project pretty soon. Stay fly
Happy new year everyone. I was rumaging thru an old desk drawer and found this.. it was a little unfinished so i tightened it up and here it is. For those of you who dont know, i used to work for this dude. We shared alot over the years, mainly a business, a few arguments, awkward conversations and some differences in taste. At the end of the day it was all worth it. Thanks for the memories Tom
